The Visual Arts Department at Harlem School of the Arts presents the artwork of our talented students in the Student Winter Exhibition. In this premiere presentation of student work in the HSA Gallery, our teachers have chosen pieces that best represent the work our students have done since they began at HSA in September.
Opening January 15 with a reception on January 16, this exhibition showcases the creativity, dedication, and skill of the students in the Visual Arts Department. Join us for the Opening Reception: Saturday, January 16, 2016 6-8p.m. The exhibition will be on display Friday, January 15, 2016 - Tuesday, February 2, 2016.
ABOUT OUR CLASSES
The Visual Arts Department offers classes for students ages 2-18. Instruction in drawing, illustration, painting, photography, film, fashion design, and graphic design provide students with a foundation in the visual arts and an opportunity to practice and perfect their crafts. ABOUT THE CURATOR
Our newly appointed Visual Arts Director, Jonathan "JP" Patton has been actively involved in visual arts for over 15 years. While receiving his Bachelor's degree in Studio Art from North Carolina Central University, JP produced exhibitions and curated shows in California, Arizona, North Carolina, and Florida as well as in New York. For his present artistic endeavors JP has been developing ethnography work in the Philippines, Cuba and South Africa. He completed his Masters in Visual Arts Administration at New York University and is excited to implement his experience, education and ideas to the Harlem School of the Arts. He states, "this position is special in that I am able to connect to the best resources New York and the world have to offer, providing children from the Harlem community and communities worldwide with extraordinary opportunities." His mantra is, "Art is Life."
