Colin Hanlon, Lisa Howard, Michael Hunsaker and more will star in a benefit concert of William Finn and James Lapine's Falsettoland, which will be presented at New World Stages on Monday, November 6th.
The benefit will star Hanlon (Rent, I Love You Because) as Whizzer, Howard (Spelling Bee) as Trina and Hunsaker (NYMF's The Tragic and Horrible Life of the Singing Nun) as Marvin, as well as Jill Abramovitz (Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me) as Cordelia, Zachary Allen as Jason, Keith Gerchak (Windy City in Philadelphia) as Mendel, and Leisa Mather (Forbidden Broadway) as Charlotte.
The performance will be directed by John Znidarsic, with musical direction by Rick Hip-Flores and Joshua Salzman.
Falsettoland will benefit the AIDS services organization Miracle House, which "provides housing, meals, and advocacy to caregivers and patients coming to New York City for critical medical treatment," according to MH's website.
"Written with humor and poignancy, Falsettoland resonates with contemporary audiences and is a heartfelt reflection of the first reported cases of AIDS 25 years ago." Written as the third musical in Finn's three-musical series of In Trousers, March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, the show (which is sung-through) concerns Marvin's relationship with his ex-wife Trina, his precocious son Jason and his lover Whizzer, who is stricken with AIDS. The show was consolidated with March of the Falsettos into the 1992 Broadway musical Falsettos, which earned Finn a Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Book (which he co-wrote with director Lapine).
General admission and VIP single tickets range from $50 to $100. Visit www.miraclehouse.org for more information.
