The producers of Monty Python's SPAMALOT announced today that Hank Azaria will return to the Tony Award-winning Best Musical on December 2.
He re-joins David Hyde Pierce, who is extending his stay at the Shubert Theatre; both actors will star in SPAMALOT until April of 2006.
As previously announced, acclaimed British actor Simon Russell Beale will join the company as King Arthur on December 20.
Mr. Azaria is returning to SPAMALOT following a scheduled leave of absence this summer to film the Showtime series Huff.
Directed by Mike Nichols (Tony Winner for Best Director), SPAMALOT has a book by Eric Idle, and music and lyrics by John Du Prez and Eric Idle. SPAMALOT, which won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical; the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical; and, the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Musical, has repeatedly set new box office records at the Shubert Theatre since opening on March 17.
The National Tour of SPAMALOT will begin at Boston's Colonial Theatre in March of 2006.
Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and their quest for the Holy Grail, SPAMALOT features a chorus line of dancing divas and knights, flatulent Frenchmen, a killer rabbit and one legless knight.
The Original Broadway cast recording of SPAMALOT is currently available on Decca Broadway.
The Millennium Broadway Hotel is the official hotel of SPAMALOT.
Simon Russell Beale is appearing in SPAMALOT with the permission of Actors' Equity Association pursuant to an exchange program between American Equity and UK Equity
