There has lately been an irresponsible campaign against people who wear cargo shorts, with articles disdaining them on Buzzfeed, Thought Catalog, Huffington Post, and many more. The wonderful and useful garment has become a joke. This is not only style-shaming, but also elitist. Some people work for a living, and find cargo shorts not only useful, but also attractive.
Professional Theatre Tech Michael Collins and Photographer/Playwright Duncan Pflaster have joined forces to shed an entertaining light on this snobbish effort to police other people's sartorial choices, with the HOT TECHIES IN CARGO SHORTS CALENDAR. We are seeking legitimate theatre technicians who proudly wear cargo shorts to model for us.
This is unpaid volunteer modeling, but there will be a $20 stipend for the lucky 12 that make the calendar. The calendar is accepting all body types: if you think you are hot, then show up and flaunt it.
The project will be shooting in various backstage/onstage sites in the New York City area during September. We are still sourcing locations, so if you would like to model and have a suggestion of a workshop or location that you have a personal connection with and that will let us photograph there, please let the team know.
The calendar wants to give back to the theatrical community, so half of the proceeds from online sales will be donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (broadwaycares.org).
If you are a technician who would like to model, send a headshot or selfie to cargoshortscalendar@gmail.com. If you have a suggestion of a hot technician you know, let them know about the opportunity and have them send an e-mail.
Let's show the world that Techie is the new sexy.
