John Fisher (Playwright/Actor) won the 2017 Best Actor Award at the United Solo Festival for his one-man show History of World War II. John is a Bay Area actor, director and playwright. His play Joy played Off-Broadway at the Actor's Playhouse. Recent Playwriting: Shakespeare Goes to War (nominated for six 2016 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards) and To Sleep and Dream (2014 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award Winner for Best Script.) New York Credits: Joy (Actors' Playhouse), NYIFF - Schönberg (Barrow Street), Queer Theory (SoHo Playhouse), There's Something about Marriage (Center for Architecture.) John is the only two-time winner of the Will Glickman Playwriting Award for Medea, the Musical and Combat! He directed and acted in the TBA Award Recommended Productions of Breaking the Code (nominated for five 2016 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards) and Equus. This summer he appeared as King Lear and directed Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in SF. He has taught in the graduate playwriting program at the Yale School of Drama and at UC Berkeley and The American Conservatory Theatre. Since 2003, John has served as Artistic Director of Theatre Rhinoceros, the longest -running LGBT theatre in America.

John's fascination with World War II can be seen in several of his plays: Combat!, a drama about gays in the military; Amnesia, a farce about a gay man who suffers shell-shock during the Battle of the Bulge and forgets he's gay; The Battle of Midway, a musical-comedy about the famous naval battle; and Schönberg, a drama about the World War II era friendship of Oscar Levant and Arnold Schönberg.
