The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI), the nation's oldest and largest LGBTQ youth service organization, has announced an ongoing partnership with Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch for the New York City Pride Parade on Sunday, June 28, 2015. This partnership aims to celebrate LGBTQ youth and will feature actors Darren Criss and Rebecca Naomi Jones on the HMI parade float alongside HMI youth members who will walk during the parade.
Following Darren & Rebecca's participation in the Pride Parade, they will perform in a special Pride Sunday performance at 7 p.m.
"We cannot thank Hedwig enough for its generosity and support over the years, and we are thrilled about our Pride partnership," said Thomas Krever, Chief Executive Officer of HMI. "This partnership will bring a tremendous amount of visibility and awareness, helping the vital work we do for LGBTQ youth."
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH is thrilled to continue its ongoing partnership with HMI with another donation of $100,000, bringing the total to $500,000 since the show opened on Broadway in 2014. In addition, The Shubert Organization, one of the producers of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and the owner of the Belasco Theatre, is making a separate donation of over $32,000 to HMI. Hedwig and the Angry Inch has been an HMI supporter for years to help LGBTQ at-risk youth and through ticket sales, album proceeds and fundraising. Hedwig and the Angry Inch and HMI started their relationship in 2003 with the tribute album "Wig In A Box: Songs From and Inspired by Hedwig and the Angry Inch," which benefited HMI. This was continued with the documentary film "Follow My Voice," which highlighted the Harvey Milk School, located at HMI, and the making of the "Wig in a Box" album.
