HEDWIG Star Taye Diggs Signs On for Season 3 of Hit Drama Series EMPIRE

TV Line reports that Taye Diggs, most recently seen on Broadway in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, has signed on for the third season of FOX's hit drama series EMPIRE.

The Broadway alum will be seen in the recurring role of Angelo Dubois, described as "a city councilman from a well-respected New York family But don't let Angelo's pedigree and wealth fool you. He isn't as concerned with money as he is with community organizing and local politics, noble passions." The actor will make his first appearance on the show in the September 21st season premiere.

'HEDWIG' marked Diggs' first New York stage role since the 2005 revival of A Soldier's Play. On TV, he stars in Steven Bochco's crime drama "Murder in the First." His many film and television credits include How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Go, Chicago,The Best Man, its follow up The Best Man Holiday, and six seasons on ABC's hit drama "Private Practice."

Diggs made his Broadway debut in 1994 in the Tony Award-winning revival of Carousel. Soon after, he landed the role of Benny in in the landmark musical Rent, a role he recreated in the 2005 film version. Diggs other New York stage credits include Chicago, Wicked, and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party.
