Herbert S. Schlosser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of the Moving Image, announced the election of Richard L. Plepler, Co-President of Home Box Office, Inc., to the Museum's Board of Trustees.

Mr. Schlosser said, "Richard Plepler's career at HBO has been outstanding. HBO is known here and abroad for the excellence and popularity of its original programming. From its distinctive dramatic series to its acclaimed sports shows, HBO continues to win major awards and the support of an enthusiastic audience. We are pleased to add a creative executive of Richard's talent to the Museum's Board of Trustees. His insight and leadership will be invaluable."

Plepler was named co-president in June 2007, reporting directly to Chairman and CEO Bill Nelson. He has been an integral part of the senior management team at HBO, involved with all creative aspects of the company, since 2002 when he became executive vice president. He joined HBO, a subsidiary of Time Warner, Inc., in 1992 as senior vice president, corporate communications, and was promoted in 1997 to executive vice president of the group.

Before joining HBO, Plepler founded RLP, Inc., his own consultancy specializing in strategic communication and production from 1985 to 1992. Before RLP, Inc., he was an aide to U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut from 1981 to 1984. Plepler is a member of both the Council on Foreign Relations and The Trilateral Commission. He is also a trustee of the Asia Society and serves on the boards of the Nixon Center and Phoenix House.

"We welcome the guidance and support of Richard Plepler at such a pivotal moment in the Museum's history," said Rochelle Slovin, Director of the Museum. "We are entering an exciting new era with an expanded building to accommodate our increasing audience of students, teachers, and visitors of all ages from around the world. His advice will be enormously significant as we build our programming to match our new capacity."

Founded in 1981, Museum of the Moving Image is the only institution in the United States that deals comprehensively with the art, technology, and social impact of film, television, and digital media. It houses the nation's largest collection of moving image artifacts and screens hundreds of films annually. Its exhibitions-including the core exhibition, Behind the Screen-are noted for their integration of material objects, computer-based interactive experiences, and audiovisual presentations. A major expansion and renovation of the Museum's facility is currently underway. Designed by architect Thomas Leeser, the project will double the size of the Museum and includes a new 264-seat theater, a 68-seat screening room, new galleries for changing exhibitions, and a multi-classroom education center. When it opens this winter, the new Museum building will be ideal for showcasing the moving image in all its forms. Visit the website for more information: http://www.movingimage.us
