HAMILTON's Daveed Diggs, who just left the Broadway blockbuster last week, has added yet another project to his jam-packed film and TV schedule.

Variety reports that the Tony winner will portray Rainbow Johnson's brother, Johan, in the ABC series BLACK-ISH when it returns for Season 3 this fall.

"He's sort of a hipster, entitled kid who gets on Dre's nerves," creator Kenya Barris told Variety. "He's constantly on a search for the best conditioner for his hair. He's probably gone to Penn or Wharton and could have gotten a great-paying job, but he's trying to find himself. That attitude more than anything makes Dre want to strangle him."

Commenting on casting Diggs for the role after seeing Hamilton, Barris said: "I was completely blown away by the whole show. Everyone was great, but there was a certain charismatic nature to [Diggs] when he came out. I noticed each time -- he was the guy where the audience kind of [perked] up and said, 'Oh my God, this guy!' And I had heard through some of the cast members and through some other people that 'Black-ish' was his favorite show. We had been looking for someone to bring on for [that] role, and I felt like he would be such a welcome addition to the family."

Diggs's character will have a "substantial" recurring arc in the third season, appearing early on.

As BWW reported last week, the star will also appear in Andy Samberg and MurRay Miller's upcoming HBO mockumentary TOUR DE PHARMACY, about doping in the professional cycling community.

In addition, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the rapper, who took on the dual role of Thomas Jefferson and the Marquis de Lafayette in the smash Broadway musical, has also signed on for the feature length film WONDER, an adaptation of R.J. Palacio Young Adult novel. Diggs will take on the role of a teacher in the film which also stars Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Noah Jupe. Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) will direct from a script by Jack Thorne and Steve Conrad.

Diggs's credits include, national tour: Word Becomes Flesh. Regional: In the Red and Brown Water, Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train, The Tempest, Troilus and Cressida, Mirrors in Every Corner. Albums: CLPPNG (Sub Pop Records) and Midcity with Clipping; Small Things to a Giant. He has also appeared on NBC's Law & Order and will soon be seen in Netflix's "The Get Down."
