The 2008 Guthrie Experience welcomes 14 actors from the country's top actor training programs to participate in this summer's nine-week program of classes, workshops, rehearsals and Guthrie programs and activities. The cast collaborated with Guthrie Movement Artist and Director Marcela Lorca (The Secret Fall of Constance Wilde) in creating Caviar on Credit, a comedic mystery based on a true story of identity theft and inspired by film noir style. Using elements of radio drama, music and movement, this dynamic production illustrates the different faces of trust in our current communication and technology-filled age.
A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training was established by Director of Company Development Kenneth Washington in 1997 to provoke, challenge and further stimulate the considerable talents of these young actors. Washington and Guthrie Director Joe Dowling also aimed to build a bridge between the conservatory and the profession. The program also introduces the actors to the Guthrie and the Twin Cities, while developing a relationship with the theater that often continues far beyond the summer training program. Guthrie Experience alumni have appeared in numerous Guthrie productions over the last 10 years, including In the Blood, Da, Blood Wedding, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet and The Great Gatsby, among others.
Over the years, Guthrie Experience participants have come from advanced actor training programs around the country, including American Conservatory Theater, Brandeis University, Brown University/Trinity Rep Consortium, Columbia University, Georgetown University, The Juilliard School, New York University, Rutgers University, University of California – Irvine, University of Southern California, University of Washington and Yale School of Drama.
