Due to critical acclaim and popular demand, Gutenberg! The Musical!, the musical comedy by Scott Brown and Anthony King directed by Obie Award winner Alex Timbers, will transfer to The Actors' Playhouse (100 Seventh Avenue South in Greenwich Village) for a 10-week limited engagement.
Gutenberg! The Musical!, starring Christopher Fitzgerald and Jeremy Shamos, will begin performances at The Actors' Playhouse on Tuesday, January 16, 2007. The opening is Sunday, January 21 at 7:00 P.M.
The production follows its previous critically acclaimed limited engagement at 59E59 Theaters, where it played from November 21 – December 31, 2006 (opened on Sunday, December 3).
"In this two-man musical spoof, a pair of aspiring playwrights, Bud Davenport (Fitzgerald) and Doug Simon (Shamos), perform a backers' audition for their new project - a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. With an unending supply of enthusiasm, Bud and Doug sing all the songs and play all the parts in their crass historical epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway contract - fulfilling their ill-advised dreams," press notes state.
Gutenberg! The Musical! is presented Off-Broadway by Trevor Brown, Ron Kastner, Terry Allen Kramer and Joseph Smith in association with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
