In an encore performance of Neurotica, cabaret star David Gurland will "hitch a ride through the music and musings of Madonna Louise Ciccone Richie." The show will play the The Encore! (266 W. 47th St., between Broadway and 8th Avenue) on Monday, August 18th at 7 PM.

Neurotica premiered in May 2005 and "covers twenty of Madonna's hit songs from the early 80's through the present, with many surprises along the way. The show follows a similar format to Gurland's prior endeavor with Michael Holland, the wildly successful Gurley Show. Launched in early 2002, The Gurley Show enjoyed sold out crowds and rave reviews with its unique mergence of rock music and the theatricality of a cabaret show," according to a press statement. In addition to the arrangements and musical direction, MAC award-winning songwriter/singer/instrumentalist Michael Holland will play guitar and piano for Neurotica, with Gurley Show veterans Karen Mack (back-up vocals), Jerry Smith (percussion), David Boyd (back-up vocals) and Marco Brehm (bass) also featured.

John Hoglund of Back Stage Magazine wrote of Neurotica: "one of the most exciting outings of the season" and that "Gurland is in better voice than ever and everything he sings is fully realized...he illuminates the stage with a vibrant presence that is sexy, funny, and sensual. Much like Madonna, Gurland pushes peoples buttons, reinvents the norm—and it all works."

Gurland "has won a place as one of the most formidable openly gay singers in New York's music scene. Channeling cabaret experience and instincts into his pop/rock shows, Gurland merges talent, presence and humor, into an unforgettable entertainment experience. Gurland's accolades include 4 MAC Award nominations, the MAC/Hanson Award, a Gay and Lesbian American Music Award Nomination, and three Bistro Awards, one of which recognized his first CD, released in 1999." Gurland has appeared at The Cutting Room, The Bitter End, Town Hall, CB's Gallery, The Living Room, Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, and Fez, as well as out of town venues like Odettes in New Hope, The Gardenia in LA, the Manor in NJ and Twiggs in San Diego.

There is a $15 cover charge for Neurotica; each show has a $12 food/drink minimum and the show is $10 for members of the Cabaret Hotline, MAC and NYGMC. To make reservations, call 212-221-3960. For more information, visit www.theencorenyc.com.
