Roundabout Theatre Company is pleased to announce additional company members to join previously announced stars Laura Linney as "La Marquise de Merteuil" and Ben Daniels as "Le Vicomte de Valmont" in a new Broadway production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, by Christopher Hampton, directed by Rufus Norris at the American Airlines Theatre (227 West 42nd Street).
Joining the company are Siān Phillips as "Madame De Rosemonde," Mamie Gummer as "Cecile Volanges", Kristine Nielsen as "Madame De Volanges", Benjamin Walker as "Danceny," Rosie Benton as "Emile" and Derek Cecil as "Azolan."
The limited engagement will begin previews on Friday, April 11, 2008 and officially open on Thursday, May 1, 2008. The design team includes Scott Pask (sets), Katrina Lindsay (costumes) & Donald Holder (lights). The full company will be announced shortly.
"The definitive battle of the sexes springs to life in this Tony Award-nominated classic by Christopher Hampton. For long-time friends and occasional lovers Vicomte de Valmont (Daniels) and Marquise de Merteuil (Linney), love is simply a game of chess. But in a few false moves, they're about to find themselves locked in the ultimate checkmate. Filled with seduction, betrayal, and plenty of illicit passion, this dark comedy paints the pre-Revolutionary French aristocracy in all its cynicism and decadence," explain press notes.
The Roundabout Theatre Company production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses marks the play's return to Broadway for the first time since its 1987 Tony Award-nominated premiere and subsequent 1987 Olivier Award-winning West End production. Les Liaisons Dangereuses went on to inspire the 1988 Academy Award-nominated film classic, Dangerous Liaisons.
Laura Linney returns to Roundabout Theatre Company following the 2000 Broadway production of Uncle Vanya and prior to that, the 1994 production of Hedda Gabbler. Mamie Gummer returns to Roundabout after making her New York stage debut in the 2005 production of Mr. Marmalade. Kristine Nielsen returns to Roundabout following the 2005 Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire.
