Gregory Generet premieres "A Marvelous Night" in a prime time engagement at the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, beginning Wednesday March 28.  Backed by Mike Renzi & his Quartet, the "molten-voiced baritone stirs together moonlight and fire in a sultry jazz stew that combines songbook standards and a number of newer-vintage ballads."  Generet makes it "A Marvelous Night" in four shows only, Wednesday and Thursday March 28 & 29, at 7pm; Monday April 2 at 9:30pm, and Tuesday April 3 at 7pm.

"The night can be impenetrable, and deep; it can also set you straight," says Generet. His collection includes songs by a wide constellation of composers and songwriters, from Thelonius Monk to Van Morrison, and from Cole Porter and the Gershwins, all the way to Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.  The show's music director, the legendary pop-jazz pianist Mike Renzi, is best known for his collaborations with such icons as Mel Torme, Peggy Lee and Lena Horne, among others.

Three years into his new career as a singer (he was an Emmy Award-winning television news editor at CBS News before picking up the mic), Generet has already played Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Joe's Pub, Feinstein's at the Loews Regency, The Highline Ballroom, and the Metropolitan Room with the likes of Wycliffe Gordon, Branford Marsalis and Onaje Allan Gumbs. Reviewing a Metropolitan Room performance in August 2010, Peter Leavy noted, "he's relaxed, friendly, conversing with his audience, and having one hell of a good time up there." Generet is married to the Tony Award-winning actress Tamara Tunie.
