The American Theatre Wing and XM Satellite Radio proudly present an interview with Actor Gregg Edelman, on their weekly theatrical interview show, “Downstage Center,” on XM’s On Broadway (XM Channel 28).
Edelman will appear as the special guest on Friday, October 10 at 6 p.m. The show will repeat on Saturday, October 11 at noon, Sunday, October 12 at 7 p.m., and Wednesday, October 15 at midnight (all times eastern; transmission is simultaneous across the country). The program becomes available as streaming audio and podcast from
www.americantheatrewing.org and iTunes beginning Monday afternoon, October 13.
Multiple Tony nominee Gregg Edelman describes about the creation of the new Broadway musical A Tale of Two Cities, including a song that was cut and that he misses terribly, and explains to Dickens purists where the musical's plot diverges a bit from the novel. He also talks about his college years at Northwestern University, where his connection to theatre began not as an actor but as a songwriter, and how an excuse for skipping classes landed him in Chicago company of Evita; the challenges of appearing in revivals -- as he did in the 1987 Cabaret and the 1984 Oliver! -- where the goal seems to be recreating the original hit production, as opposed revivals open to new interpretations, such as Wonderful Town and Into The Woods; the thrill of creating roles in the original City of Angels and Passion; and how he tackled the role of Rutledge in the 1997 revival of 1776.
Gregg Edelman currently appears in Broadway’s
A Tale of Two Cities. Other Broadway credits include Wonderful Town, Into The Woods, 1776, City Of Angels, Passion, Falsettos, Cabaret, Les Miserables and Cats. Edelman has been nominated for four Tony Awards, two Drama Desk Awards (including one win for his work in 1776) and two Outer Critic Awards. Film and television credits include Little Children, Spiderman 2, Crimes and Misdemeanors, and the upcoming The Proposal. Edelman is also a regular on the CBS series, Hack.
Each new “Downstage Center” is regularly broadcast at 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays at noon, Sundays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 12 a.m. (all times EST). Following the initial run on XM, each program is made available for free, on-demand, internationally as both streaming audio and podcast on ATW’s Web site,
