The Green-Wood Historic Fund will host a tribute to Isadora Duncan, one of the most innovative and exciting figures of 20th-century dance, as Catherine Gallant and her dance company (Catherine Gallant/DANCE) perform some of Duncan's most memorable works. Performed against Green-Wood's serene landscape will be Duncan's mournful "Grande Marche" (1914) set to the music of Schubert, as well as late-period dances evoking sorrow, hope, and rebirth set to Chopin. The performance will conclude with dances of exuberance and light.
After enduring the tragic accidental deaths of her two young children, Duncan's choreographic works echoed mournful yearning, spiritual redemption and powerful images of rebirth. For over thirty years, dancer and choreographer Catherine Gallant has choreographed modern dance and has made it her goal to preserve and enliven the dances of Isadora Duncan.
The event is $30 and $25 for members of the Green-Wood Historic Fund and the Brooklyn Historical Society. Reservations are recommended. To make an online reservation or to find out more information, visit www.green-wood.com/toursevents or call 718-210-3080.
