Green Space is pleased to offer a diverse roster of new/emerging artists in October.
Fertile Ground will present new work by various artists and Take Root will present the Treehouse Shakers performing a special program for Young Audiences.
TAKE ROOT, now in its 8th season, aids in the continued development and performance of new dance work of various aesthetics by providing choreographers with the opportunity to be produced in a full-length or paired evening of work. This once a month series supports dance makers by providing our venue, Green Space, with full technical and marketing support.
Olive and Pearl: Written & directed by Mara McEwin & choreographed by Emily Bunning, is specifically created for children ages 2-5. Centered on thematic elements of home, it is the story of a young girl, Olive, who is lovingly being raised by her Granny, Pearl. Through their day Granny builds fires, warms tea, makes meals & has a comforting lap with safe arms to rock Olive to sleep. The characters play fairy house, go on an imaginary journey to the moon & learn the Jig. Metaphors of home are woven throughout the set & story with both puppets & movement. Home is not only the structure of one's house, but the place one longs for. Magical, visual, stimulating, & oftentimes funny, Olive & Pearl is a supportive performance first for the very young.
Treehouse Shakers: Founded in 1997 in New York City, Treehouse Shakers' mission is to create original dance-plays that encourage multi-generational audiences to experience a connection to their community. Our young audience programming is unique in its offering young audiences a guided look at modern dance through powerful and meaningful theater. Our work is sometimes the first performance, specifically in viewing dance, which many young people experience. Treehouse Shakers creates work that experiments with narrative styles and explores the story's elements through the abstractions of modern dance. Our performance repertoire includes thirteen original works that addresses every age-level within youth programming. As one of New York's only dance-theater companies' solely creating original work for young audiences, our goal is to provide inventive, intelligent and engaging performances that nurture creative thought and inspire dialog. With each new piece, we challenge ourselves as artists to not only create the highest caliber of work, but also to create work that will stimulate, connect and entertain our audience members.
FERTILE GROUND is a monthly new works showcase for emerging and established artists now in its 11th season, producing the work of over 50 choreographers each year. This non-curated performance event features five or six choreographers each evening and includes a post-performance discussion with wine and cheese, with Guest Moderator Amy Kail.
