The annual favorite "Broadway Showstoppers" will close the Philly Pops' 2005-06 season. The concert--featuring the songs of Jule Styne--will take place on May 3rd and May 5th-7th at Verizon Hall in The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts in Philadelphia. Peter Nero conducts the Philly Pops.
The concert will feature
Debbie Gravitte (Tony Award-winner for
Jerome Robbins' Birthday),
Susan Egan (
Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret, and
Thoroughly Modern Millie), Sal Viviano (
Chicago, The Full Monty, Evita, and
Sunday in the Park with George), and
William Michals (
Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Chicago, and
Beauty and the Beast). Gravitte and Viviano replace the previously-announced
Megan Mullally and
Brian D'Arcy James.
"The program celebrates, among others, the music of Jule Styne, composer of such Broadway classics as
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Peter Pan, Gypsy, and
Funny Girl. The year 2006 marks the centennial of Mr. Styne's birth," state press notes.
