Grammy Winner Chris Botti to Perform with the New York Philharmonic

Grammy Award-winning trumpet player Chris Botti will perform with the New York Philharmonic, led by Andy Einhorn in his Philharmonic debut, Monday, April 11, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.

Known as a versatile musician whose repertoire ranges from jazz to pop to classical, Chris Botti has performed with The Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and San Francisco Symphony, among others, as well as with artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Andrea Bocelli, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, and Steven Tyler. The world's top-selling jazz instrumentalist, Chris Botti has won multiple Grammy Awards.

Chris Botti appeared with the Philharmonic in December 2015 as part of SINATRA: Voice for a Century, a gala concert conducted by Alan Gilbert, co-presented by Lincoln Center and the New York Philharmonic, and telecast on Live From Lincoln Center.

In the 2016-17 season Broadway music director and conductor Andy Einhorn leads the Atlanta Symphony, National Arts Centre (Ottawa), Calgary Philharmonic, Tucson Symphony, and Fresno Philharmonic orchestras. Among his Broadway credits are Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Evita, Brief Encounter, The Light in the Piazza, and Sondheim on Sondheim, and he most recently served as the music director and conductor for the Broadway production of Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway. Since 2011 Mr. Einhorn has served as music director and pianist for six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, performing with her with orchestras and at venues including The Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Opera, Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall), Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Teatro Real, Madrid. They recently recorded performances for an upcoming telecast with the Sydney Symphony at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Mr. Einhorn has also music directed for Barbara Cook at Feinstein's and Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music. His tour work includes Sweeney Todd, The Light in the Piazza, Mamma Mia!, and The Lion King, as well as the current touring production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. He has worked at Goodspeed Opera House, Signature Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Paper Mill Playhouse. He was principal vocal coach and pianist for Houston Grand Opera's An Evening with Audra McDonald, a double-bill of Poulenc's La Voix humaine and Michael LaChiusa's Send. His recording credits include Bullets Over Broadway, Cinderella, Evita, Sondheim on Sondheim (Grammy nomination), Stage Door Canteen, and Ms. McDonald's newest release, Go Back Home. He served as the music director for HBO's Peabody Award-winning documentary Six by Sondheim and music supervisor for Great Performances's Peabody Award-winning special Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy on PBS. Andy Einhorn is an honors graduate of Rice University. This concert marks his New York Philharmonic debut.

Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed CD When I Fall in Love, trumpet player Chris Botti has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop muisc, and his ongoing association with PBS has led to four number-one jazz albums, as well as multiple Gold, Platinum, and Grammy Awards. His latest album, Impressions, won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album at the 55th Grammy Awards in 2013. Performing worldwide and selling more than four million albums, he has found a form of creative expression that begins in jazz and expands beyond the limits of any single genre. Over the past three decades Mr. Botti has recorded and performed with Sting, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Josh Groban, Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Buble?, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, and Frank Sinatra. Traveling for as many as 300 days per year, the trumpeter has also performed with orchestras around the world and in venues from Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl to the Sydney Opera House and the Real Teatro di San Carlo in Italy. The Grammy-winning Impressions (Columbia Records) is the latest in a parade of albums - including When I Fall in Love (2004), To Love Again: The Duets (2005), Italia (2007), and the CD/DVD Chris Botti in Boston (2009) - that has established him as a clarion voice in the American contemporary music scene. Mr. Botti is joined on the disc by featured artists Andrea Bocelli, Vince Gill, Herbie Hancock, Mark Knopfler, and David Foster. Chris Botti made his New York Philharmonic debut in Central Park as part of the September 2011 Andrea Bocelli Live in Central Park, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert; most recently he appeared as part of the December 2015 SINATRA: Voice for a Century gala, also led by Alan Gilbert.

Single tickets start at $59. Tickets are available now through February 15 only to 2015-16 New York Philharmonic subscribers and current donors.
