Gorilla Rep Brings A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM to Washington Square Park, Beg. Today

Gorilla Rep is back to its old tricks -- that is giving New Yorkers free performances of William Shakespeare's classic comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Beginning today, August 14, 2014, performances will run for four weeks - from Thursday through Sunday at 8 p.m. starting at the Southwest corner of Washington Square Park.

As is the Gorilla Rep tradition since its inception in 1989, this performance will be mobile and interactive. Each performance moves from place to place as it goes from scene to scene with the action! Audiences are advised to wear sneakers and/or comfortable shoes.

It's Gorilla Rep's 12th COMPLETELY FREE remounting of the Bard's beloved production in Washington Square Park, which New York Time's critic Ben Brantley called, "a downtown tradition."

Christopher Carter Sanderson, Founding Artistic Director of Gorilla Rep, has directed and designed this innovative production since 1989. Sanderson's creation, which launched the immersive theatre movement, has lectured and written extensively on the aesthetics of interactive theater. A graduate of New York University's renowned Tisch School of Drama and the prestigious Yale School of Drama, Christopher Carter Sanderson has over the years worked with some of the theatrical world's most prominent playwrights, as well as teaching at several distinguished dramatic academic institutions in the US. His book on the company is available from renowned academic press Routledge.
