Painter and photographer, JC Jaress and his wife, the award-winning filmmaker, Anastasia King Jaress, announce the launch of their radical new venture, Good Foot Project - www.goodfootproject.com. They will be hosting "ON THE GOOD FOOT" on March 9, 2013 at the Los Angeles Center For Digital Art, 102 W. 5th St. in Downtown LA. The action-packed event will feature an art sale and auction of selected works, live performances by singers Erin Powers and Jody Jaress and a community Q&A. The event, organized to raise funds to support the Jaress' education and resource sharing efforts, will close with a set by the incomparable DJ MOOP.
On April 28, 2013, the husband and wife team will leave everything they know in Los Angeles and begin a year-long expedition, by RV, across the USA. They will visit low-impact organic farms and eco-villages to learn best practices in sustainable farming, construction, energy, water and waste management. The creation of a completely sustainable, low-impact, eco-retreat and training center of their own is the couple's ultimate goal. Not only does this expedition provide them with hands-on training and the chance to develop an online community, the duo plan to share their experiences with others by producing a day-by-day blog of their journey, a photo essay book and a memoir.
"People are sort of shocked by what we are doing," admits Anastasia. "They are convinced that this kind of change is outside their reach. That's why we are documenting the whole process - to show people how we struggle and learn and grow and, hopefully, people will begin to feel like the change they desire is possible."
The couple are avid gardeners and currently tend a 400sf organic vegetable garden and a few fruit trees. But farming wasn't always in their future. They claim the reason for the expedition is necessity. "We could work another 20 or 30 years like we do now and then what?" explains JC, "The fact is, we'll never be able to retire. Our lifestyle is unsustainable - and not just economically, but environmentally and socially as well. That's why we are doing this."
Supporters can follow the Jaress' expedition on their blog and on Facebook (all links below). Additionally, the couple is offering scores of unique perks on their IndieGoGo page - from organic vegetable seeds to original photographs and oil paintings by Jaress.
