"Jazz Fiddler on the Roof" (TWINZ Records)
Eddie Gomez is a brilliant bassist whose flexibility and quick reflexes make him an ideal accompanist. He grew up in New York and was with the Newport Festival Youth Band during 1959-1961. After studying at Julliard, Gomez played with Rufus Jones' sextet, Marian McPartland (1964), Paul Bley (1964-1965), Giuseppe Logan, Gerry Mulligan, and Gary McFarland, among others. Gomez came to fame during his long period with the Bill Evans Trio (1966-1977). He has since worked in a countless number of settings, including filling in for Charles Mingus (1978) and with Steps Ahead (1979-1984), Benny Wallace, Joanne Brackeen, Jack DeJohnette, Chick Corea, and in commercial settings as a studio musician. Eddie Gomez has recorded as a leader for Columbia, ProJazz, and Stretch. His new CD "Jazz Fiddler on the Roof" (TWINZ Records) will be released this September. Jerry Bock, the original composer of Fiddler on the Roof had this to say about Eddie Gomez. ³I have just finished listening to the very best jazz treatment of the Fiddler on the Roof score I¹ve ever heard. It was far more than a treatment. It was a transformation.²
Mark Kramer is an award winning Philadelphia-born jazz pianist whose uniquely lyrical jazz trios have been featured in the past on TELARC International Records, and Lightyear/ WARNER. Eddie Gomez was initially taken with Mark's characteristic sound, sensitivity, and musical insights. Kramer¹s depth of feeling, clarity, and originality are perfectly complemented by Gomez¹s own. The overall result of their unique collaboration is a seemingly telepathic music, providing an extraordinarily spiritual/ soulful experience for the listener.
Lenny White, a versatile drummer, is best know for his work with Chick Corea¹s Return To Forever group as well as Miles Davis in 1969 Bitches Brew recording and a who's who of jazz including Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, Gato Barbieri, Gil Evans, Stanley Clarke and Stan Getz among others.
