More than 900 generous volunteers joined God's Love We Deliver staff, celebrities, local politicians and board members in preparing and delivering more than 3,200 meals for people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life altering illnesses in New York City, and nearby Hudson County, New Jersey. Of our 3,200 meals, 1,000 were guest meals, so that each client could invite a friend or family member to spend the holiday with them. Our meals today were delivered in a cheerful, hand-decorated bag designed by local school children.
Each household also received an emergency "Blizzard Box" full of delicious, nutritious foods to tide them over in the event of a weather-related emergency as well as holiday gifts to make the season special. Thanks to our friends at Whole Foods Market NYC, Justin's, Volvic water and GoGoSqueez for generously supporting our Blizzard Boxes.
Demand for the services of God's Love is up by more than 60% in the last five years. Because of this record growth and need to expand, God's Love has temporarily relocated to our new home in Brooklyn at 630 Flushing Avenue while we renovate and expand our SoHo home. This was our first Winter Feast celebration operating out of our new home.
"We are grateful, as always, to celebrate Winter Feast with our God's Love community," says Karen Pearl, President & CEO of God's Love We Deliver. "Winter Feast is a special holiday for our clients, their guests and families, and our volunteers, and this year is no exception. We are pleased to have cooked and delivered 3,200 delicious holiday meals for people in the New York City metropolitan area who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves and we thank every volunteer and supporter who made today - and every day at God's Love - possible."
