The much talked about, anticipated, and perhaps dreaded episode has arrived – no, not Glee's tribute to RuPaul's Drag Race – that comes later this season, but the 'infamous' Break-Up episode. Break out the tissues, Gleeks – it's going to be a tearjerker.
Marley and Jake bond over free lunch tickets, while Brittany and Blaine recall the early days of their relationships when things were that simple. Santana visits home with some dirty laundry and time for her girl, Brittany, but finds herself worried about Brittany's crowd being pretty religious and intense. Blaine begins to doubt his place in his boyfriend's life even more, while Finn attempts to figure out where he stands after being semi-honorably discharged from the Army and trying to figure out where he stands with Rachel. Blaine and Finn put their feelings into Duncan Shriek's "Barely Breathing" as Blaine's eye begins to wander elsewhere and Finn tries to find his place in the world and in Rachel's new world.
Blaine surprises Kurt by visiting early and the newly reunited group of Finn, Rachel, Kurt, and Blaine hit Callbacks, a well known NYADA pit stop bar where Rachel and Brody duet on "Give Your Heart a Break" by Demi Lovato, while Finn feels his heart begin to break itself. Blaine takes to the microphone next with a very emotional version of 'Teenage Dream' which sends Kurt's worrisome mind into overdrive.
On a walk, Blaine reveals he hooked up with someone out of loneliness while Finn freaks out when Rachel reveals how close she and Brody really were before he arrived – the couples sing No Doubt's "Don't Speak" and leave the words on hold for the power of song as they go to bed – not speaking. With his heart pretty broken, Finn sneaks out of the apartment, but is caught by a pretty broken Kurt, who sends his stepbrother off with a hug as things continue to develop. Kitty invites Marley to join her and Jake at the 'Left Behind' meeting at Breadstixs, where talk of the Rapture falls to the wayside as Brittany admits to Santana that she's felt "left behind" and that's why she's a part of the club. Finn arrives back in Lima for a visit, starting with an emotional visit to Mr. Schue for a talk.
Finn comes back to the choir room, where he encounters Blaine who is being frozen out by Kurt, the glee club reacts to the return of their former leader as Mr. Schue poses the question as to what the annual McKinley High musical should be – Finn's suggestion of Grease sits well with all in attendance – Grease is still the word. Mr. Schue gets the position of the Blue Ribbon Arts committee, but Emma is less than excited when he suggests she leave behind the world of McKinley to join the Mr. Schue goes to Washington train.
Kurt is still struggling with everything that happened with Blaine while Santana puts her feelings into words with "Mine" by Taylor Swift to Brittany as they decide it's best to end things for the sake of their love for one another. Jake explains to Marley that when he's with Kitty, he feels accepted, but after Kitty arrives and throws the gantlet, Jake breaks up with her and Kitty prepares to go all bad Carrie Underwood song on him.
Rachel comes to Ohio to confront Finn about everything, before ending their relationship and leaving Finn to his thoughts as the couples all intermingle to perform "The Scientist" as the future of some couples is not as crystal clear.
And that was all she wrote, Gleeks – well, for now. What do you think? Is there hope for the less than certain couples? Did you favorite couple survive? And what lies ahead? Well, Gleeks – it'll be a little bit of a wait until we meet again, but get ready for some great stuff to come – returning faces! Grease! Finn directing! It's all happening, Gleeks, but for now – hold on to that feelin and I'll see you on November 8th!
