According to The New York Post's Liz Smith, the Oscar-winning 2000 film Gladiator might be charging onto a West End stage.

"Brian Eastman produces, and William Nicholson, who wrote the movie screenplay, has been working on the stage book. Hans Zimmer's admired score for the film will be used as well. And who will play the brave gladiator himself?...The producers are said to want Broadway's burly Brian Stokes Mitchell," writes the columnist.

Gladiator, which also featured Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Richard Harris and Derek Jacobi in its tale of a Roman general who seeks renown as a gladiator to avenge his slain family, won a 2000 Oscar for Best Picture, as well as four others (including Best Actor for Crowe). Directed by Ridley Scott, Gladiator features a screenplay by David Franzoni.
