Ghostlight Records will release the original cast album of the Broadway musical High Fidelity on May 15, 2007. The CD is produced by Grammy Award winner Joel Moss and Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records President Kurt Deutsch. Directed by Tony Award-winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, High Fidelity has music by Tom Kitt, lyrics by Amanda Green, and book by David Lindsay-Abaire. The show was based on the best-selling novel by Nick Hornby.
The recording will feature the original Broadway cast of Will Chase, Jenn Colella, Christian Anderson, Jay Klaitz, Jeb Brown, Rachel Stern, Emily Swallow, Jon Patrick Walker, Kirsten Wyatt, Justin Brill, Andrew C. Call, Matt Caplan, Caren Lyn Manuel, Anne Warren, Paul Castree, George Merrick, Betsy Morgan, Tom Plotkin and J.B. Wing.
The musical "tells the story of Rob, a record store owner who knows almost everything there is to know about pop music, but almost nothing about how to hold on to a girl. Rob's love life, already a broken record of heartache, falls off the charts completely when he gets dumped by Laura....but that just sets him up for one of the top 5 romantic comebacks ever," according to press materials.
Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Live Nation, Roy Miller, Dan Markley, Ruth Hendel/Danzansky Partners and Jam Theatricals produced the show.
Following a four week world-premiere engagement at Boston's Colonial Theatre, the musical began performances on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre on November 20, 2006 and officially opened on December 7. It played its final performance on Broadway on December 17.
High Fidelity was the first Broadway collaboration between Mr. Kitt and Ms. Green, however they had previously collaborated on the musicals Debbie Does Dallas and For The Love Of Tiffany. Additionally, Mr. Kitt has worked as Musical Director, Arranger, Conductor/Pianist, with Broadway credits including Mario Cantone's Laugh Whore and Bombay Dreams, and Off-Broadway's Dream A Little Dream. He is the leader of the Tom Kitt Band, whose debut album Find Me includes songs that have been featured on "Dawson's Creek" and the film The Two Ninas. In 2004, Mr. Kitt received a grant from the Jonathan Larson Foundation for his original musical, Feeling Electric. Additionally, Ms. Green was tapped by Arthur Laurents to write additional lyrics for a revival of Hallelujah, Baby! (with a score by her father Adolph Green, Betty Comden and Jule Styne). Other credits include her original revue Put A Little Love In Your Mouth: The Tongue-In-Cheek Songs Of Amanda Green. She is the recipient of a 2004 Jonathan Larson Award.
