In January of 2007, Ghostlight Records will release a recording of Ricky Ian Gordon's Orpheus and Euridice, based on the tragic Greek myth of eternally lost love.
Futral and Palmer, with the song cycle's original pianist Melvin Chen, recorded the CD in April.
Gordon is best known for his musical My Life with Albertine. Based on Proust's In Search of Lost Time, it ran at Playwrights Horizons in 2003. Gordon's work can be heard on two CDs; Only Heaven features his settings of Langston Hughes poems, while Bright-Eyed Joy comprises some of the Hughes pieces as well as settings to the words of Dorothy Parker, Edna St. Vincent Millay and others. A recording of his Dream True, based on Peter Ibbetson, was released by PS Classics earlier this year. It features Victoria Clark, Jason Daniely, Brian d'Arcy James, and Kelli O'Hara, among others.Videos
