Ghostlight Records, a division of Sh-K-Boom Records, will release the original cast recording of the hit Off-Broadway musical [title of show] on July 25.
The release coincides with the show's return to the New York stage. Back by popular demand, [title of show] will kick-off an 8-week engagement at the Vineyard Theatre on July 14. The show premiered at the New York Musical Theater Festival in 2005 and went on to enjoy a wildly successful run at the Vineyard Theatre in early 2006. The CD is produced by Grammy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Joel Moss and Sh-K-Boom / Ghostlight Records President Kurt Deutsch.
Directed and choreographed by Michael Berresse, [title of show] has music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen and book by Hunter Bell. The recording features the show's original Off-Broadway cast: Hunter Bell, Jeff Bowen, Susan Blackwell and Heidi Blickenstaff, with musical arrangements and direction by Larry Pressgrove.
[title of show] is a "hilarious and bittersweet tale about the artistic process and the indomitable spirit of two struggling writers and two struggling actresses who take on the seemingly impossible task of creating a new musical in just three weeks," state press notes.
Composer and lyricist Jeff Bowen and librettist Hunter Bell were each awarded a Village Voice OBIE for their work on [title of show]. Jeff Bowen has composed music for the Avant Garde-Arama series at PS 122, Sparklefest 2000 at Dixon Place, and the film Boat Mime. Hunter Bell was a 2003 finalist in Warner Brothers' Comedy Writers' Workshop and has developed new works at The Dramatists Guild, Irish Rep, PS 122, Goodspeed/Chester and Manhattan Theatre Club.
[title of show] received a Special Citation at the OBIE Awards and was nominated for two Drama League Awards: Distinguished Production of a Musical and Distinguished Performance by the ensemble.
[title of show] is produced by Kevin McCollum, Laura Camien and Vineyard Theatre.
The [title of show] original cast recording is accompanied by a 25-page booklet, which contains song lyrics and features a special note of praise for the show from acclaimed playwright Terrence McNally. The CD also features a bonus track, "[title of show],"not performed in the production.
The limited 8-week run of [title of show] will play at the Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) Mondays through Wednesdays at 8:00 PM, Thursdays at 7:00 PM & 10:00 PM, Fridays at 8:00 PM and Saturdays at 5:00 PM & 8:00 PM.
