The producers of the new production of The Fantasticks, the world's longest running musical, announced that the new cast recording hits stores nationwide today, Tuesday, November 14, 2006. Recorded on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 by Ghostlight Records, the album was produced by Grammy Award winner and Academy Award-nominee Joel Moss, and Executive Produced by Sh-K-Boom / Ghostlight Records' president Kurt Deutsch.
In addition to twenty-seven enchantingly familiar tracks from the musical, including such perennial hits as "Try To Remember," "Soon It's Gonna Rain," and "I Can See It," the album contains a rare, never-before-heard bonus track of Harvey Schmidt performing "O Have You Ever Been To China" in 1959. "O Have You Ever Been To China" was written to musicalize the section in which El Gallo tries luring Luisa to travel with him to see the world. The song was never completed, and "Round and Round" took its place in the score.
This beloved musical love story features music by Harvey Schmidt and book and lyrics by Tom Jones. Jones also directs the musical, which was originally directed by Word Baker.
The Fantasticks opened on Wednesday, August 23, at the Snapple Theater Center (210 West 50th Street at Broadway).
The cast recording features Thomas Bruce as Henry, Leo Burmester as Hucklebee, Santino Fontana as Matt, Sara Jean Ford as Luisa, Burke Moses as El Gallo, Robert R. Oliver as Mortimer, Douglas Ullman, Jr. as The Mute and Martin Vidnovic as Bellomy.
