Ghostlight Records to Release NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY Original Cast Recording, Dec 18

Ghostlight Records has announced the debut digital release of the Original Cast Recording of the acclaimed musical No Way To Treat A Lady on Tuesday, December 18. The show has music, lyrics and book by Douglas J. Cohen, adapted from the novel by William Goldman (Marathon Man, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid), which became a renowned movie. The recording is based on the 1996 Off-Broadway revival at the York Theatre Company directed by Scott Schwartz and starring Adam Grupper, Paul Schoeffler, Alix Korey, and Marguerite MacIntyre. It was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and two Outer Critics Circle Awards (Best Revival and Best Featured Actress). Plans are underway for a Broadway production with an all-star cast.

No Way To Treat A Lady is a theatrically-charged musical comedy thriller about a publicity crazed actor turned killer and the endearing detective who pursues him. It is a devilish blend of humor, romance and murder with four meaty roles, two requiring great versatility: the killer adopts a myriad of disguises including a tango instructor, French waiter, female barfly and priest while one actress plays the detective's mother, the killer's mother and three of his victims.

Since the York Theatre Company revival, No Way To Treat A Lady has had significant productions at The Colony Theatre in Los Angeles, Signature Theatre in Washington DC, the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami, Barrington Stage Company in The Berkshires, Lyric Stage of Boston, Phoenix Theatre in Arizona, The Cape Playhouse in Cape Cod, a return engagement to the Florida Studio Theatre in 2002, a critically acclaimed production at Theatreworks in Hartford, a 2012 tour in Sweden, an award-winning production in Barcelona (winner of Best Musical), productions in Germany, a six-month tour in Italy (entitled Serial Killer Per Signora), as well as productions at the Darlinghurst Theatre in Australia, the Talk is Free Theatre in Ontario, and an acclaimed production in Amsterdam. No Way To Treat A Lady has been translated into six languages including German, Swedish, Dutch, Italian, and Catalan – and soon Turkish.

No Way To Treat A Lady premiered off-Broadway in a sold-out, extended run at the Hudson Guild Theatre in 1987 directed by Tony Award winner Jack Hofsiss and starring Stephen Bogardus, Liz Callaway, Peter Slutsker and June Gable.

Douglas J. Cohen is the recipient of the Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Songwriting, two Richard Rodgers Awards (No Way To Treat A Lady and The Gig), a Jonathan Larson Grant (Barnstormer), a Drama Desk nomination (Children’s Letters To God), the Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Theatre Foundation Award, and the inaugural Noël Coward Prize (The Gig). Other musicals include The Opposite of Sex (Williamstown Theatre Festival), The Big Time (with Douglas Carter Beane, NYMF Festival), Glimmerglass (Goodspeed-at-Chester), and the play, Lovely Send Anywhere (a finalist for the inaugural Laurents-Hatcher Award).
