Geva Theatre Center in Rochester, NY, presents FIVE COURSE LOVE, May 5-June 6. Gregg Coffin's musical returns to the home of its birth following worldwide acclaim. The cast features Broadway actors Troy Britton Johnson (THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, Will Rogers FOLLIES and DAMN YANKEES), Kevin Ligon (THE PRODUCERS, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and FINIAN'S RAINBOW) and Kristen Mengelkoch (Forbidden Broadway). Brad Greer and Jessica Vosk complete the ensemble.
FIVE COURSE LOVE features five dates and five restaurants. In the game of love, everyone deserves a shot. Three actors play fifteen characters whose amorous combinations are played out in this musical comedy. Gregg Coffin's music ranges from pop and country, to a German cabaret and a 1950's doo-wop to Motown and more.
Gregg Coffin's musical about love and food with a little dash of Cupid thrown in for good measure, was first workshopped at Geva in October 2003. It captivated the hearts of Rochesterians with its first production in the Nextstage in the spring of 2004, with the Democrat and Chronicle extolling Coffin's "mastery of music in many styles" and "his wickedly funny lyrics." The City Newspaper proclaimed the show "a compositional tour-de-force of clever writing." In October of 2005, the show opened at the Minetta Lane Theatre in New York produced by Geva Theatre Center and Five Course Love Company LLC. Of its Off-Broadway production, the New York Post declared it "a fun feast for audiences," and the Herald called it "a zany, new feel-good musical spoof that will have you calling for seconds." An original cast album was released in November of 2009 by leading Musical Theatre Label Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records and is available at iTunes, Amazon and Playbill.com, Barnes and Noble, Borders and many more outlets.
FIVE COURSE LOVE is directed by Mark Cuddy. The design team includes Adam Koch (scenic design), Devon Painter (costume design) and Robert Wierzel (lighting design) - designers of last year's stunning production of Sweeney Todd; and Danny Erdberg (sound design). Peggy Hickey will choreograph and musical director is Don Kot. Five Course Love is co-produced by Entercom, ESL Federal Credit Union, Max of Eastman Place and Oppenheimer Funds.
