After producing Off-Broadway's first ancient Chinese drama "Where Is My Maple Town," Genevieve Yiming Wang directs"99 Women," a new play written by Genevieve Flaven. It opens at Glicker-Milstein Theatre on November 1st, 2018. The play incorporates three different languages (Mandarin-Chinese, French, and English), all of which will be featured in this production.

"There's something magical about hearing these 99 Women from all over the world telling their stories," says Miss. Wang, "they come from various backgrounds yet share the same identity -- 'woman,' but this identity has such different meanings for each of them. Is "woman" a collective identity?" 99 Women does not promise to provide answers, but rather, seeks to complicate the audience's understanding of what it means to exist as a woman in a world where women's voices are more important than ever.

Miss Wang invites the audience to explore these questions together in 99 Women. "The smart use of different languages in this play gives us a lot to play with in the rehearsal room. In Chinese, 'he,' 'she,' 'it' pronouns sound the same. In French, every noun is 'masculine' or 'feminine.' What does it mean for women who speak different languages?"

The play is part of the ongoing project "The 99 Project" and has been staged internationally in Shanghai, India, and France. "I especially want to thank Columbia Blue Glaze Theater for making theater accessible by providing free admission for all, and the next step for us is '99 Live New York,' a collaborative documentary play," says Miss Wang.

The cast includes Jiexin Cai, Moshan Guo, Toni Kim, Lisha Meng, Tianjiao Sheng, Sylvia Su, Zheying Tang, Zerui Tian, Andie Wang, Lu Yin, Naxin Yin, Moli Ying, Fan Yu, and Camille Zhu. Production team includes producer Becca Qiu, assistant producer Claire Chen, stage manager Pinhong Wu, ASM/assistant director Asteria Liu, assistant director Crystal Xie, set designer Bella Tincher, lighting designer Kalina Ko, sound designer Alex Yang, live musician Xiaoran Xue, costume designer Maggie Lin and creative publicity team Milaine Thia, Roslyn Pan, Lu Lu.
