Genesis Repertory – in the 3+ years it maintained residence in Brooklyn – has continued its acclaimed classical stage, premiered musicals and new works, expanded its training program to include acting, voice, young people's programs, and playwrighting, and even premiered a film at New York's Anthology Film Archives, now takes on a second location: The Block Institute's Block Academy, located at 133 27th Avenue, houses a 650-seat theater with it's own entrance, private bathrooms, dressing areas, and kitchen/concession.
Mary Elizabeth MiCari, Genesis' artistic director, decided to inaugurate this new space with the company's The Final Projects, part of its arts intensive training program, Genesis University on Stage. The event will be Saturday night, April 21 at 8:00 p.m. $10 All Seats.
The Final Projects are a series of contemporary monologues, musical presentations, and samples of new plays by the members of the acting and vocal workshops and playwrighting group, including Mohammed Saad Ali, Robert Aloi, Christine Conway, Joseph Conway, Sherry Giedd, Ted Montouri, Kristin O'Blessin, Kelly Petlin, Amy Stark, and John Stillwaggon. Each student was given instruction in the preparation and execution of each piece as well as how to market themselves as professional artists.
The vocal workshop is conducted by Mary Elizabeth MiCari, artistic director of Genesis and Broadway staff alum; the acting workshop is taught by Jay Michaels, a former college professor and professional stage and film director; the playwrighting workshop is conducted by produced and published playwrights, Robert Liebowitz and Frances Callahan; and the young people's program continues at the hands of arts-professional, John Stillwaggon. Musician Melinda Faylor serves as accompanist of the vocal workshop.
