2013 Courses

BAY RIDGE VOICE

This musical performance group class is designed for students of all levels. Numerous singing styles will be explored including jazz, pop, standards, etc.

Learn unique ways to present yourself in different musical performance situations, including cabaret and musical theater. Intonation and breath control. Song lyric and music breakdown as well as the art of "acting-through" a musical number. Learn how to use your voice properly to express feeling, character, and story. And how to create your own style and interpretation.

CLASS PERFORMANCE FOR A LIVE AUDIENCE IN BROOKLYN and a SPECIAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY IN MANHATTAN

Mary Elizabeth MiCari, Genesis Repertory's artistic director, is a trained opera singer as well as a professional actress, director, and designer with Broadway and film credentials. She founded and managed several theatrical companies. She has been teaching singing and acting for more than a decade.

WRITER'S BLOCK: PLAYWRIGHT WORKSHOP

Acquire the tools needed to write an engrossing, well-made play in just one class. Understand plot progression and character arc. Learn how to create engaging dialogue. Understand how to craft a full story.

Robert Liebowitz is a published and produced playwright with extensive New York and national credits including the New York International Fringe Festival and the Mark Taper Forum. His anthology of plays can be found at The Drama Book Store.

COMMANDING THE STAGE WITH Jay Michaels

This course is designed for all levels of experience. It begins with the basics of acting and continues into: building a character; presenting a monologue and a two-person scene; giving and taking stage for ensemble work; and special section on "the tricks of the trade".

Jay Michaels is a 35-year veteran of the professional theater and a former professor with credentials that include Fordham and Yeshiva universities, Kingsborough and Lehman colleges, and founder of Riverdale Academy's performing arts program.

Director/Producer Jay Michaels directs you through a special interactive program that teaches you how to navigate through the audition process and beyond. Learn the tricks of the trade that will get you in the door and keep you there.

SPECIAL AUDITION "FINAL EXAM" AT THE END OF THE COURSE IN BROOKLYN AND MANHATTAN, OPEN TO INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS.

Aside from his stage experience, Jay Michaels is a professional writer and public relations executive since 1988. He's served on several Broadway shows, a major opera company, a media-buyer, The Daily News, PBS, and a major international philanthropy.
