Gateway Playhouse Announces Their Two Holiday Shows

Gateway's 60th Season shifts into winter gear with 2 spectacular shows - A Holiday Spectacular on Ice and Cirque Le Masque, RIO.

The technical staff at Gateway is in the process of making enough ice to fill 62,000 highball glasses - and certainly enough for award winning and world class figure skaters to show off their expertise.

Gateway is the only theatre in the Nation to own not one, but two portable ice skating rinks. One will be set up in Bellport for rehearsal, while the other one will be set up at the Patchogue Theatre for performances of A Holiday Spectacular on Ice. The chilling systems utilize 8,000 feet of tubing and pump 120 gallons of environmentally friendly anti freeze through the system at a rate of 65 gallons per minute. Two 40hp compressors housed in a trailer parked outside the theatre keep the coolant a frosty 10 degrees Fahrenheit - keeping the stage ice surface a constant 28 degrees Fahrenheit.

A team of professional skaters have been hired including National Champion - Derrick Dellmore. He will be joined by Gateway's usual caliber of Broadway singers and other specialty performers to create an ice spectacular - performed in the warmth and comfort of the Patchogue Theatre. Bringing on the holiday spirit with shows featuring ice skating and beloved holiday tunes is nothing new to Gateway and this updated version will be directed by veteran Keith Andrews and choreographed by Tara Modlin with lighting by Brian Loesch, and costumes by Marianne Dominy.

Beginning right after Christmas, Gateway has obtained exclusive rights to present the internationally acclaimed - Cirque Le Masque at the Patchogue Theatre. These performers have appeared in Cirque shows across the country and throughout the world. The artistry and skill of the aerialists, contortionists, strong men, gymnasts, and jugglers display quick reflexes, impeccable timing, and human art. With theatrical wizardry and comic audience interaction, Cirque Le Masque has achieved the perfect blend of theater technology and creative entertainment thrilling to behold for audiences of all ages. Schedule: A Holiday Spectacular on Ice, 10 performances, December 18-22. Cirque Le Masque - RIO, 6 performances, December 31 - January 2. Substantial discounts are offered for children 12 and under. Special 10:30 pm performance of Cirque Le Masque, RIO on New Year's Eve is complete with drinks, hot and cold hordourves, hats and noise makers, and a 40 foot simulcast from Times Square to watch the ball drop.
