Gary Calamar Joins 88.5 FMLos Angeles  Image

Acclaimed veteran radio host and music supervisor Gary Calamarwill join 88.5FMLos Angeles beginning this Sunday, October 7. His show will debut from 5:00-7:00 PM in its weekly time slot.Calamar previously manned the helm on-air at KCRW-FM on Sundays for 25 years.

In making the announcement, Sky Daniels, GMProgram Director at 88.5FM, stated, "Gary established a singular reputation at KCRW (and as a music supervisor) with this keen sensibility curating a powerful blend of new artists with critically acclaimed legends. His instincts for melody make him a wonderful addition to the 88.5 FM staff."

Calamar added, "I am super excited to embark on a new radio adventure with 88.5 FM, which has developed into an incredible presence on the LA radio scene. Their explosive growth, dedication to 24/7 music, and passion for songs both timely and timeless make them a perfect fit for my show. I am also thrilled to work with Sky Daniels and share the airwaves with my former colleague Nic Harcourt and the amazing music people at 88.5 FM."

Additionally, Bob Goodman, host of the long-running "Whole 'Nuther Thing' show at KSBR (now part of 88.5), will also air on Sundays from 3:00-5:00 PM, following Mimi Chen's "Peace, Love & Sundays."

"Whole 'Nuther Thing" was created in 2004 and has been a staple on 88.5 HD2 ever since. It's essentially a mosaic of music without boundaries. Taken from a palette of over 75 years, you will hear Rock, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Pop, Country, Reggae and even Classical all blended into handcrafted sets. As Duke Ellington once remarked "There's Only 2 Kinds of Music, Good Music and Bad Music", Bobprefers the former.

88.5FM has garnered international recognition for its unique blend of rock, Americana, soul, blues, and folk. The air staff includes industry stalwarts like Nic Harcourt, Andy Chanley, Mimi Chen, Robert Hilburn, as well as World Café with Thalia Schlanger, The Bluegrass Situation Hour, and Acoustic Café with Rob Reinhart. The station broadcasts on 88.5FM in Los Angeles and Orange counties, and on 89.9 FM in Ventura. It also can be heard online atwww.885fm.org and via iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and the 88.5FM app.

88.5FM is a partnership of California State University, Northridge and Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
