Gary Beach Returns To Tony Award-Winning Role In The Producers Sept 6

While movie audiences eagerly await the movie musical version of The Producers, they can head to the St. James Theater and catch Gary Beach in the role that garnered him the 2001 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a musical. Beach is slated to begin performances on September 6th and will stay in the role through the winter which is when the film version will open up nationwide on December 21.

Aside from his Tony win in 1991, Beach has been twice nominated before - first in Disney's Beauty and the Beast and last season in La Cage aux Folles.

Currently starring in The Producers is Brad Oscar as Max Bialystock and Hunter Foster as Leo Bloom.

"THE PRODUCERS" opened on Broadway in March 2001, winning an unprecedented 12 Tony Awards, including 'Best Musical'. The show also received a record 11 Drama Desk Awards(including 'Outstanding Broadway Musical'), 8 Outer Critics Awards (including 'Outstanding Broadway Musical'), the 2001 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for 'Best Musical', and the 2001 Drama League Award for 'Best Musical'.

"THE PRODUCERS" has a Tony Award-winning book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, Tony Award-winning music and lyrics by Mel Brooks, and is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Scenic design is by Robin Wagner, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting by Peter Kaczorowski, sound by Steve C. Kennedy and orchestration by Doug Besterman.

The film "THE PRODUCERS" was released in 1968. Written and directed by Mel Brooks, it won him an Academy Award for 'Best Original Screenplay Written Directly For The Screen'.

The show's playing schedule is Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., Wednesday & Saturday matinees at 2 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets for The Producers, which are scaled at $31.25 - $101.25, are on sale by phone through Telecharge at (212) 239-6200 and in-person at The St. James Theatre, 246 West 44th Street.
