Gallery Players presents Ray Cooney's Run For Your Wife - the fourth production in Gallery's 48th season - in what promises to be an intimate, exhilarating romp. Perfect for the post-holiday season.
Run For Your Wife was originally produced in London's West End in 1983 and on Broadway in 1989. This model of British farces focuses on an extraordinarily ordinary taxi driver, John Smith, and his sexy secret: he has a loving wife, named Mary, in a flat in Wimbleton, and another loving wife, Barbara, in a different flat only four minutes away, in Streatham. A heroic impulse thrusts John into the spotlight and under the scrutiny of both Wimbleton and Streatham detectives. John must rush back and forth between his two wives, trying to preserve the marital balance he has so cleverly constructed - prompting, in the words of the New York Post ,"virtually continuous laughter."
Tuning up the comedy to funny-bone pitch is director Mark Harborth, memorable at Gallery for - among other productions - Noises Off, Sweeney Todd, Chess, Othello, Macbeth, Dreamgirls, and most recently, Rent. He also serves as President of Gallery's Board of Directors.
Run For Your Wife opens Saturday evening, January 17th, and runs for 12 performances through Sunday, February 1st, 2015. Performances will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm. The second and third Saturdays will also have matinees at 2:00 pm.
