Gallery Henoch is pleased to introduce Todd Kenyan as the newest addition to our roster of artists. Gallery Director, George Henoch Shechtman, discovered the painter during a holiday visit to the West Coast. Four Seconds (below) will be Kenyan's first painting featured in the Spring Group Show that is now open to the public.

Moving to Southern California in 1998 from the East Coast, Kenyon became inspired to create a body of work that captures the unique beauty of beachside vistas.

Kenyon works in large scale (Four Seconds is 60" x 72") and captures the multifaceted spirit of the ocean. Seeing his paintings from a distance, the viewer is taken in by a serene swell or the force of the crashing surf. But a closer look shifts the focus to subtle color fields that mimic the reflective quality of light against sand and water. Kenyon works in oil on canvas, layering thin color washes in a manner similar to watercolor. Over the washes he uses a drybrush technique that allows him to capture details within a composition.

Todd Kenyon was educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, in Providence, RI. In 1981, he left school for a position with a civil engineering firm. In 2000, after living in Laguna Beach for two years, he left his career to paint full time. During this period he developed the current body of work.
