Join local chamber ensembles Loop 2.4.3 and Clogs as they present a genre-crossing evening at Galapagos Art Space on Monday, July 16 at 8 pm. Accompanied by video art by East Village painter Jon Waldo, both groups will perform music that draws on multiple influences, from folk and rock, to modal and improvised forms, to modern classical composition.

The “Godfather of indie-classical” quartet, Clogs, presents new music by Australian composer/performer, Padma Newsome: “Shady Gully”, a collection of music inspired by the people and the beauty of the pristine coastal environment of Mallacoota, Australia, and previews of “2 Moon Smile”, his new opera about love and prophesy.

Hailed as a “fascinating percussion ensemble” by Time Out New York, Loop 2.4.3 presents music by Thomas Kozumplik and Lorne Watson: “American Dreamland”, a portrait of the cultural hodgepodge of American heritage that begins as a nihilistic snapshot of the post-modern psyche, flashes back to childhood, and journeys from the dark, surreal world of Edgar Allan Poe to the rebellious freedom of Easy Rider, from the ancient, desolate plains of Minnesota to the post-industrial streets of Brooklyn, Baltimore, and Detroit.

Concurrent with the music, the images of East Village painter Jon Waldo are transformed in a new, subtly animated video projection. The throbbing, psychedelic images of iconic Americana present a potent, sometimes humorous, sometimes devastating take on post-modern America. Waldo’s art is informed by the pop-art tradition and infused with found objects encompassing vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles, to images of the Gowanus Canal’s industrial landscape.

The program will conclude with a new collaborative work between Clogs and Loop 2.4.3. Doors open at 7 pm, concert begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door. Tickets and information: (718) 222-8500 or http://galapagosartspace.com.
