GRUMPY OLD MEN: THE MUSICAL a stage adaptation of the classic 1993 Warner Bros. motion picture comedy, "Grumpy Old Men," will be presented this Thursday, June 15th at 11am & 3pm in New York City. Attendance is by invitation only.
TONY Nominee Lee Wilkof (Little Shop of Horrors, Kiss Me, Kate, Assassins) will join Broadway veteran John Hillner (La Cage Aux Folles, Mamma Mia) as the two grumpy neighbors originally played by Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon in the 1993 Warner Bros. motion picture. The role of Ariel (Ann-Margret in the movie) will be portrayed by Broadway star Luba Mason (Chicago, How To Succeed..., Jekyl & Hyde).
The reading will be directed by Nick Corley (Mary Poppins, Edwin Drood) and feature Musical Direction by Wendy Bobbitt Cavett, (Hamilton, Mama Mia)
The creative team includes award-winning composer Neil Berg (THE 12, The Prince and the Pauper), lyricist Nick Meglin (Mad Magazine, Tim & Scrooge), and playwright Dan Remmes (Three Tables, Winner NY Foundation for the Arts Fellowship).
The reading will feature a luxury supporting cast led by Film/TV/Broadway star Didi Conn (Grease, Benson, Lost in Yonkers) in the role of Punky, a character created specifically for this musical adaptation of the piece. Broadway veteran Lawrence Clayton (Dreamgirls, The Color Purple) plays her Uncle Chuck. Ever-popular character actress Liz Larsen (Beautiful, Hairspray) will portray wicked IRS Agent, Sandra Snyder, while Bill Ryall (Wicked, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) will portray Grandpa Gustafson. David Josephsberg (Honeymoon in Vegas, Altar Boyz), play Jacob Goldman, opposite Rita Harvey, (Fiddler on the Roof, Phantom of the Opera).
The remaining roles will be played by a number of highly respected Broadway including: Larry Daggett, Wally Dunn, Joy Hermalyn, Danielle Lee Greaves, Amy Griffin, Tad Wilson, along with Max Korn, Brian Walters, and Audra Qualley
The original 1993 film was presented by Warner Bros., and written by Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Simon Birch, Ghost Rider).
