Rydell High hits the Upper West Side on Wednesday June 30 at 8:30 PM, with a newly-restored print of the classic high school musical GREASE, the 1978 hit movie version of one of Broadway's long-running musicals, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The free event is a preview, before the July 9 nation-wide release of Paramount Pictures' newly restored print of the highest grossing movie musical ever. Viewers are encouraged to dress as their favorite GREASE character and let loose with the music.
The classic PG rock musical, also starring
Stockard Channing, with special guest appearances by
Eve Arden,
Frankie Avalon,
Joan Blondell,
Edd Byrnes,

The free screening will open Summer On the Hudson's Wednesday night "Movies Under the Stars" series. Upcoming films, with this year's theme Tall Tales, include "Neverending Story (July 7)," "Pan's Labyrinth (July 14)," "Inkheart (July 21)," "The Fall (July 28)," "Big Fish (August 4)" and "Stranger Than Fiction (August 11)."
The 10th annual free Summer On the Hudson, presented by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, features more than 80 events for the whole family at Riverside Park South, including movies, the Children's Performance Series, the pop-music "Acoustic Sundays," Globesonic and "Let's Dance" dance parties, kayaking, yoga, pilates, tot's soccer, pee wee basketball and the September 12 West Side County Fair.
