On Thursday evening, May 14, 2015 Fencing in the Schools will hold it's second annual benefit celebration at the Salmagundi Art Club in Manhattan to support the growth of youth fencing across the country. Mike Woods, Meteorologist for Fox 5's "Good Day New York", will host the event, which will feature an exciting demonstration from the US Olympic Fencing team. The celebration will honor Fencing in the Schools board member Michael Bacon for his outstanding contributions to the organization.

"We're so excited to see such an amazing, passionate group of people coming together to support the growth of fencing," said Tim Morehouse, Founder & CEO of Fencing in the Schools. "It's only with their help that we've been able to introduce fencing to students who've never even heard of the sport and get them lunging and learning and having a good time."

Now in its third year, Fencing in the Schools runs introductory fencing programs at 50 schools across 9 states, including most recently Virginia and Colorado. 95% of students who participate in the program have never fenced before, with even higher percentages of first time fencers appearing in inner city and rural communities.

In addition to his role on "Good Day New York", Mike Woods is an active member and supporter of various charitable organizations that emphasize youth mentorship including 100 Black Men Inc. of New York and its Eagle Academy, the Ailes Apprentice Program, AYUDA for the Arts and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Woods is also an accomplished triathlete who enjoys working out, skiing and any activity involving physical fitness. He is thrilled to be combining his passions in helping encourage youth fitness and bringing diversity to the sport of fencing.
