The multi-talented Julia Mattison will be joining the cast Missed Connections: An Exploration into the Online Postings of Desperate Romantics for tonight's December 3 performance at The Laurie Beechman Theatre.
Julia Mattison made her Broadway debut in Godspell last fall, and since then has carved a place in the New York scene, performing in concerts such as Broadway Sings Michael Jackson and Broadway Sings Adele (les Poisson Rouge), Godspell Sings Schwartz (Joe’s Pub) as well as multiple comedy shows featuring a plethora of her original songs at the Lauire Beechman Theater. She also recently participated in two readings with director Stafford Arima: Bare: A Pop Opera (Nadia) and A Separate Peace at New york Stage & Film (Lois). Regional credits include Hans Christian Andersen and Laura Dennis at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco as well as a reading of A Young Lady of Property at the Royal National Theater in London with Horton Foote and director Craig Slaight.
As a singer/songwriter, Julia has been featured on CBS Radio’s chataboutit.com, and in various venues in NY and SF, and was recently commissioned alongside Charles Strouse, Galt MacDermot and more to compose a song for a new concert entitled “Once Upon A Time in New York”.
As a comedian, Julia has earned awards for her work in sketch and standup comedy, and was featured in EW, The AV Club, NY Mag, and more for her latest spoof creation, Human Centipede: The Musical with her college comedy troupe, Chocolate Cake City, for which she wrote the music and lyrics. She had the honor of performing with UCB musical improve troupe Diamond Lion at NYMF and has a new comedy album of original songs coming out this holiday season!
After a “hung-over” run at this February’s FRIGID NY festival, the timely comedy show Missed Connections: An Exploration into the Online Postings of Desperate Romantics began a series of monthly performances at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, located inside the West Bank Cafe at 407 West 42nd St at 9th Ave., in October with George Salazar in the featured role.
The up-and-coming Royanth Productions brings audiences a core cast of four talented comedians. Using real postings from the infamous craigslist section, the group will dive headfirst into dozens of unique characters. With a variety of locations, intentions and grammar, Missed Connections is a show of endless hilarity. Previous performances were staged at The Kraine Theater, The Producers Club, The Magnet Theater and The Brooklyn Lyceum (for the New York Times recognized UglyRhino).
