GODS & KINGS Industry Readings to be Held Next Week

On June 15th and 16th, The Other Mirror will present a staged reading of the new GODS & KINGS. A Theban king goes to pieces after snubbing the Greek god Dionysus and his pack of wild groupies in this alt-rock adaptation of Euripides's ripping tragedy, The Bacchae. It features music by Neil Douglas Reilly (Clinton the Musical, Little Dancer, Rocky), a book by Austin Ruffer, and lyrics by Maggie Herskowitz (The Edelweiss Pirates) and Austin Ruffer. The reading is directed by Katherine M. Carter (Drama League, Playwrights Horizons, Artistic Director of The Other Mirror) with music Producer/Supervision by James Dobinson (Clinton the Musical).

After a successful workshop at The Sheen Center this past September, the creative team has been further developing the musical. Maggie Herskowitz has joined the production as an additional lyricist.

GODS & KINGS will star Kevin Zak (Clinton the Musical, Silence! The Musical) as Dionysus, Ben Garrett (Songs for a New World at the York Theatre) as Pentheus, and will co-star Molly Pope (FOUND, Molly Pope Likes Your Status) as Agave, and Steven Grant Douglas (Ghost the Musical, nat'l tour) as Polydorus. Kara Guy (Clinton the Musical), Heath Saunders (I am Harvey Milk, Lincoln Center), Paige Berkovitz, and Ross McCorkell will make up the ensemble.
