The 2012 Do Something Awards honor "the nation's best, young world-changers, 25 and under" for community service and will be presented and taped today, August 19, 2012, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.
Among the nominees are GLEE and its stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, Evita's Ricky Martin (alongside Nicki Minaj in the style category), Death of a Salesman's Andrew Garfield, Broadway, movie and television star Neil Patrick Harris, and American Idol and American Idiot alumnus Adam Lambert.After today's taping, the ceremony will be broadcast on Tuesday, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET on VH1. The event is hosted by TV comedy "New Girl" co-stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris. Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Adam Scott, Simon Helberg, Ashley Greene and Jordin Sparks have signed on to present.
Viewers can vote online for this year’s celebrity award nominees, which also include Emma Stone, Ellen Degeneres, Miley Cyrus and Channing Tatum. On a night full of hilarious hosts, huge celebrities and hot music performances, one well-deserving "do-er" will receive a grand prize of $100,000 for his or her cause.
This year's Awards are executive produced by Michael Dempsey for Dempsey Productions and Lee Rolontz for VH1. Nancy Lublin and Naomi Hirabayashi oversee the awards show for DoSomething.org.
