Victoria Clark looks back at her fearless childhood!
The Broadway production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's cherished classic Gigi starring Vanessa Hudgens also features Tony Award winner Victoria Clark and she discusses her fearless attitude and upbringing as part of a new discussion now available to view.
Clark relates, "I was up for anything as a kid. My mother thinks whatever success I have achieved as an actress is because my two older brothers gave me such a hard time growing up. I wanted to be wherever they were, so to get rid of me they constantly dared me to do crazy things. Over time, I became fearless."
Furthermore, Clark shares an anecdote relating to GIGI, writing, "Grandmom used to sit with me at our round oak kitchen table after school as I waited for my mom and dad to come home. She was a big part of my life. She'd help me learn my lines for school plays, and we'd always laugh and talk about life, music, friends, the Bible-we covered it all. She lived to be 102 and probably would have gotten the biggest kick out of me playing a grandmother now in "Gigi.""
Also, Clark posits of a childhood friend and early theatre experiences, "Dawn tried out for plays, too, and we'd be cast together in roles at school and in thankless parts like the nonspeaking manicurists at the local community theater. Between plays, we signed up for the speech club. We competed in Comic Interpretation, solo and duet, and won first place in the state one year. Having those seven years of friendship in school, where we could both laugh at the world, was a valuable survival tool for me. She taught me that perspective is absolutely everything."

The official description of Gigi is as follows: "Set in the magical world of La Belle Epoque Paris, where fashion, glamour, and passion prevail, Lerner and Loewe's celebrated musical is a romantic comedy about a young woman coming of age and finding true love. This Tony® and Academy Award®-winning musical features glorious songs such as "Thank Heaven for Little Girls," "I Remember It Well" and "The Night They Invented Champagne." Following its run at the Kennedy Center, this glistening, re-imagined production by Call the Midwife's Heidi Thomas and Follies director Eric Schaeffer will bring GIGI back to Broadway for the first time in 40 years!"
