Artis Wodehouse: 19th Century Gems for the Mustel Harmonium will be presented by Gotham Early Music Scene (GEMS) today, October 11, 2012 at 1:15pm at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, 619 Lexington Avenue (at 54th Street) | New York, NY.

Rarely-heard original music composed for the harmonium, a foot-pumped keyboard instrument invented in France during the early 19th century. It combines the coloristic capabilities of the pipe organ with the dynamic expressivity of the piano. 19th century French composers recognized the exciting potential of the new instrument, and created a unique repertoire for it.

Midtown Concerts offers workers in midtown as well as the general public the opportunity to enjoy high-quality performances of music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods in a convenient, comfortable, acoustically superb venue.

This is the first event in a weekly series of free 35-minute concerts, every Thursday at 1:15 p.m. No tickets required - free; seating first-come, first-served. Free-will donations are gratefully accepted at the door. For more information, go to www.gemsny.org or call 212/866-0468
