Free Concerts & Programs Set For This Holiday Season at LCT

Lincoln Center's vibrant public and visitors space on the Upper West Side, the David Rubenstein Atrium, offers shopping, warm up with a hot drink from 'wichcraft, and enjoy great music with Target® Free Thursdays and Meet the Artist Saturdays. Enjoy a range of exciting, FREE programs this December and January and visit the Donald and Barbara Zucker Box Office at the Atrium for discount tickets to a range of performances taking place across Lincoln Center.

Admission is FREE for all events. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. A schedule of events through January 7, 2012 follows, below. The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center is located at Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets. KOOL AND TOGETHER
Where Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys left off is exactly the spot where Kool and Together was born. Inspired by the family band dynamics of The Jackson Five, Charles Sanders formed the band with his sons Charles Jr., Tyrone and Joe in 1970 in Victoria, Texas. Kool and Together forged a sound that effortlessly blended the screams of Psychedelic Rock with the Funk and Soul of Motown. After more than 30 years, the original members of Kool and Together have reunited, joined by their daughters, to tour in support of their first full length release Original Recordings 1970-77 on Heavy Light Records. LOST IN KINO
A film and music experience by composer Lev "Ljova" Zhurbin
featuring Romashka, Tall Tall Trees, PubliQuartet and special guests
Celebrating the upcoming release of Ljova's newly-mastered CD built around the compilation of his many film scores, this award-winning composer brings his formidable musical and cinematic talents to the stage along with a vibrant array of his instrumentalist friends to create a full-blown audio-visual experience of stories from the sound-side out. The New York Times said, "[Ljova] is eclectic with an ear for texture...Throaty melodies supported by pizzicato rhythms, lush chordal figures and counterpoint." Ljova has composed, produced, and recorded scores to three features and over a dozen short films. Among his recent credits are a documentary for BBC and NHK, as well as the short films Cupcake (Tribeca Film Festival) and Only Love (Woodstock Film Festival, award for Best Original Score for Short Film at LIIFE). Recently, Ljova served as the assistant composer on Francis Ford Coppola's 2008 release Youth Without Youth and the 2009 release Tetro and assisted Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet on Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain. Motivated by a range of influences spanning 70s' singer-songwriters, blues, rock, 80s alternative, West African music and reggae, Montreal-based singer-songwriter and NewSong Recordings artist Chris Velan's continues his musical journey carving out his own path. Velan's fourth studio album Fables For Fighters produced by renowned producer Iestyn Polson (David Gray) finds Velan at his most poetically versatile. Sonically, it has a quality to it that is both timeless and new, intimate and cinematic, open and claustrophobic, haunting and reassuring. Thematically, the songs strive to balance the pains of struggle with the hope of transformation; the very personal search for one's place in the world. Theo Bleckmann: HELLO EARTH! THE MUSIC OF KATE BUSH
After tackling American maverick composer Charles Ives and being rewarded with a Grammy nomination for it, vocalist Theo Bleckmann now takes on the mysterious songbook of British art-pop recluse Kate Bush. This project goes beyond merely re-creating Kate's Bush music but taking it to even further realms of sound and interpretation. Joining him in this venture will be long-time collaborator percussionist John Hollenbeck, bassist Skuli Sverrisson and keyboardist Henry Hey and special guest, mult-instrumentalist Caleb Burhans on viola, guitar and laptop. ATTACCA QUARTET
Presented in collaboration with The Juilliard School
Violinists Amy Schroeder and Keiko Tokunaga, violist Luke Fleming and cellist Andrew Yee, formed the Attacca Quartet at The Juilliard School in 2003. The quartet made its professional debut in 2007 as part of the Artists International Winners Series in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and has appeared there on numerous occasions since. First Prize winners of the 7th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in 2011, top prizewinners and Listeners' Choice Award recipients in the 2011 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, and winners of the Alice Coleman Grand Prize at the 60th annual Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition in 2006, the internationally acclaimed Attacca Quartet has become one of America's premier young performing ensembles. The Quartet will offer an interactive program to bring young listeners inside the music and the process of sharing and collaboration that is at the heart of performing chamber music. The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, the new community, visitors and ticketing facility, is home to an array of programs, services and amenities designed for area residents, out-of-towners and visitors to Lincoln Center. This new public space is named in honor of the philanthropist, financier and Vice Chairman of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in recognition of his $10 million gift to the Bravo Campaign. Serving as a gateway to Lincoln Center and the entire Upper West Side community, the Atrium offers-for the first time in Lincoln Center history-day-of discount tickets to available performances across the campus in addition to access to full-price tickets via onsite kiosks and telephone services. Along with free performances, including Target® Free Thursdays every Thursday night of the year, and Meet the Artist Saturdays-free, family-friendly participatory programs at 11 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month-other attractions and amenities in the Atrium include: a 'wichcraft café, a departure point for expanded Lincoln Center tours, a staffed Information Desk, free Wi-Fi, and restrooms.

Discount and Full-Price Tickets
Among the David Rubenstein Atrium's varied programs and services is a one-stop box office location for available, same-day discount performance tickets to Lincoln Center events. Daily events from across the campus, including performances presented by Lincoln Center and its resident organizations will be available at the Donald and Barbara Zucker Box Office at the Atrium. Tickets to available performances will be discounted at 25 % OR 50 % off the regular price. Tickets go on sale at 12 noon every day and are sold, two per person, on a first come, first served basis. The Donald and Barbara Zucker Box Office is closed on Monday, so those tickets will be sold on Sunday. The Rubenstein Atrium also offers help and guidance to patrons who want to purchase full-price tickets for future performances.

A Visitor and Tourist Destination
The Rubenstein Atrium is also the new departure point for Lincoln Center campus tours. Tour options include foreign language tours in Spanish, Italian, French, German, and Japanese (for groups, by reservation only); a newly-created "Art and Architecture" tour (also for groups, by reservation); and special Jazz at Lincoln Center tours. Daily walk-up tours for the public are offered between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (exact times are on the Atrium website.) History of the David Rubenstein Atrium

Opened in 1905 as the Colonial Music Hall, the venue on the site of the current Atrium featured vaudeville acts such as the dance team of Fred and Adele Astaire and it introduced Charlie Chaplin to American audiences. In the 1920s it became a Broadway theater, then a movie palace in the 1930s and 40s, before becoming a TV studio for both NBC and ABC. In 1971 it was renamed the Harkness Theater to house Rebecca Harkness' ballet company and school, before closing in the late 1970s. The theater was torn down, replaced by condominiums and a public plaza called the Harmony Atrium.
