MCC Theater has announced that "The Nanny" star Fran Drescher will play Lindsay, a Boston professor, in the U.S. premiere of the play Some Girl(s) by Neil LaBute. She joins previously-announced Maura Tierney ("ER"), Eric McCormack ("Will and Grace," The Music Man), and Brooke Smith (Silence of the Lambs) in the play.
The strictly limited engagement of Some Girl(s) will
begin preview performances on Wednesday, May 17th and continue through
Saturday, June 24 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher
Street, NYC). Opening night is set for Thursday, June 8, 7PM. Tickets go on sale to the public on Wednesday, March 29th. Some Girl(s) reunites LaBute with director Jo Bonney, who helmed MCC's critically-acclaimed, sold-out run of Fat Pig last season. "Set in four different city hotel rooms (Seattle, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles), Some Girl(s) follows a soon-to-be-engaged man as he pays a last visit to four ex-girlfriends before taking the plunge. Casting is underway for the role of the other ex-girlfriend Tyler.
The London production of Some Girl(s) performed
at the Gielgud Theatre and starred David Schwimmer as 'Man;' it ran
from May 12th through August 13th, 2005. LaBute's other plays include Fat Pig, The Mercy Seat, The Distance from Here, bash and The Shape of Things.
Drescher made her return to series television last season as Fran Reeves in the WB comedy "Living With Fran." She also serves as an executive producer on the series. Drescher received two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal as the title character on the hit series "The Nanny," a show she also created, wrote, directed and executive produced. Drescher made her stage debut in The Pasadena Playhouse world premiere of Ronald Ribman's Rug Merchants of Chaos. In July 2003, she made her New York stage debut in the critically-acclaimed off-Broadway drama The Exonerated. Her film credits include The Beautician and the Beast, Jack, UFH, This is Spinal Tap, Ragtime, and Saturday Night Fever.
Some Girl(s) will feature set design by Neil Patel (The Mercy Seat); costume design by Mimi O'Donnell (Fat Pig); lighting design by David Weiner (Living Out) and sound design by Rob Kaplowitz (Fat Pig).
